Cosplay | Palanquin DVa
I'm really, really backlogged for sharing my costumes from last year, so here's Palanquin Dva, completed for PAX East back in March 2018!
This costume was tricky; DVa is Korean, so I spent a lot of time researching how to create her hanbok (traditional Korean dress). I spent a lot of time filming the creation of this costume, but...I never got around to editing the footage :/ I'll share what I have for progress photos and hope they help!
I will say the star for this entire costume was the upholstery fabric I fount at my local fabric store for $4/yard...it had multiple colored stripes on the back already in a unique pattern so I didn't have to purchase multiple colors of fabric. It's definitely worth foraging through bins of fabric at places other than Jo-Anns to find materials! If you have any questions at all about how I made this costume, please feel free to ask! I'll do my best to help :) Otherwise, click below for more info!
DRESS: The bodice of the dress is dark purple and the skirt is bright pink, both Jo-Ann's casa collection. For the pattern on the skirt, I created a rubber stamp pattern and stamped on some light pink paint. I outlined each of the stamps in gold puff paint.
GUN: I bought a raw 3d print of her gun on etsy that came in 3 parts. They're epoxy-ed together, sanded, primed silver, and painted in acrylic. I can't find the original listing but there are lots of options if you search.
ACCESSORIES: For Dva's head piece and pin I sketched the ideas out and cut them out of layered foam. I covered them in a layer of worbla, but I think if you wanted to seal the foam instead, worbla wouldn't be necessary. I had fun picking out decorative beads for her headpiece, and picked up cheap embroidery thread for the pin.
